EQUIPMENT WE KNOW

Proven components, selected as one system.

Callidus commonly designs solar & battery storage systems around JA Solar panels, Victron power electronics and Pytes battery storage. Final equipment is selected for the property and project goals.

SOLAR PANELS

JA Solar

JA Solar panels turn daylight into electricity your home can use straight away. From running appliances to charging a compatible battery, your roof becomes a source of energy that helps reduce how much electricity you need to buy.

Why it is considered
Power everyday appliances with electricity generated on your roof.

Store surplus generation for later when paired with battery storage.

Get a panel layout designed around your available space, shading and energy needs.
Warranty
25 Year Performance Warranty
POWER ELECTRONICS & CONTROL

Victron Energy

Victron manages how energy moves between your battery, home and the grid. With suitable equipment and settings, it can prioritise your stored energy, charge during cheaper tariff periods and provide automatic backup to selected circuits during a power cut.

Why it is considered
Make use of cheaper electricity rates with scheduled battery charging on a suitable tariff.

See solar production, battery charge and household energy use through the free VRM app, with a compatible GX device and internet connection.

Choose optional backup designed around the essentials you want to keep running. Available power and runtime depend on your system and battery charge.
Warranty
5 Year Manufacturer Warranty
BATTERY STORAGE

Pytes

Pytes batteries store surplus solar electricity so you can use it later—for cooking, lighting and everyday evening use. They can also store cheaper off-peak electricity, helping reduce purchases during more expensive periods on a suitable tariff.

Why it is considered
Use more of your solar generation after the sun goes down.

Get storage sized around your household’s consumption and priorities.

Plan for additional capacity with modular options, subject to model compatibility, available space and system limits.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions before you request a quote?

How much could solar save me?

Savings depend on the array size, roof orientation, shading, tariff, export rate, household demand and when electricity is used. Your proposal should include a property-specific generation and savings estimate rather than relying on a generic percentage. Solar only systems can be around 60% savings and solar battery systems can be up to 90% savings.

How is the correct system size calculated?

The usable roof area, annual electricity consumption, daytime usage, future demand and local connection requirements all matter. The aim is to design a system around the property rather than simply fit the maximum number of panels.

Should I choose solar panels with or without a battery?

A battery can increase the amount of solar generation used in the home, particularly when more electricity is consumed outside daylight hours. The right answer depends on usage, tariff, budget and future plans. With the price of batteries being very reasonable now it makes sense for most customers to add battery storage to their system.

Can I add a battery to my existing solar system?

Often, yes. Compatibility depends on the existing inverter, meter, wiring and what you want the battery to do. Share the equipment details you have and the team can advise on the appropriate route. There is almost always a way to add a battery system to existing solar system.

Can the system provide power during a power cut?

Solar and batteries do not automatically provide backup during an outage. Backup requires suitable equipment and design however we regularly supply systems with full backup capabilities.

How long does installation take?

The installation time depends on system size, access, roof type, electrical work and any network approval required. Your project programme will be confirmed after the design and survey stages. Actual installation typically takes between one and three days depending on the size, complexity, number of panels, length or difficulty of cable runs etc. We can typically install up to 16 panels normally in one day. Getting an install date can take some time depending on if a DNO is needed and the current DNO approval times for your area. Installs in some areas can be installed significantly quicker due to faster DNO approval times.

Will I need planning permission?

Many domestic solar installations are permitted development, but exceptions can apply to listed buildings, conservation areas, unusual mounting arrangements and some battery locations. Property-specific requirements should be checked before installation.

What warranties are included?

Warranty periods vary by panel, inverter, battery and installation agreement.  JA Solar offers a 25 year performance warranty, Victron offers a 5 year manufacturer warranty and Pytes offers a 10,000 discharge cycle warranty.

Can Callidus help with export and grid-connection requirements?

Once we agree a price, we get a  signed letter of authority from the  customer, this a legal document that lets your solar installer or third party agent act on behalf of you when communicating with your energy supplier or local DNO. We then apply to DNO for you. You pay your local DNO Fee, once approved, we then book installation date that is suitable for all, install and commission your system. It will be MCS certified.

Will the install be MCS certified so I can export to the grid?

Your install will be MCS certified.

What information should I provide?

Useful details include a recent electricity bill/usage, roof photographs, meter and consumer-unit photographs, existing solar or inverter information, postcode, backup priorities and preferred timeframe.
